AST/ALT Ratio Calculator (De Ritis)
AST and ALT are both "liver enzymes", but AST also comes from muscle. The ratio between them helps tell a hard training week from a liver problem, and an alcohol pattern from a fatty-liver pattern.

What does an AST/ALT ratio above 1 mean?
With ALT normal and GGT normal, it usually means muscle, typically resistance training in the previous 72 hours. With both enzymes raised, a ratio above 2 is the classic alcohol pattern; cirrhosis also pushes the ratio above 1.
What does a ratio below 1 mean?
The typical pattern of fatty liver, viral hepatitis or medication-related liver stress, where ALT rises more than AST.
How long should I rest before a liver test?
Avoid heavy training for 48 to 72 hours. AST and CK can stay raised for several days after a hard session.
